Nothing is white | Master Thesis
What remains when everything is left out? White is deeply rooted in human history not only as a color with impact for education, art and culture. As a symbol for emptiness, nothing, missing ornamentation and the created space for thoughts, is the color white one of the most important means for simple design.

Nothing is white | Master Thesis
What remains when everything is left out? White is deeply rooted in human history not only as a color with impact for education, art and culture. As a symbol for emptiness, nothing, missing ornamentation and the created space for thoughts, is the color white one of the most important means for simple design.

In Japanese aesthetics, white is referred to as „not yet being“ and is therefore given high priority as a free space for interpretation. This work aims to break down the meaning of white in history and which methods or techniques relating to white can currently have relevance for design. Using photographs, principles such as the use of white space, abstraction and the reduction of possibilities are tested.

A series of photographs served as a practical implementation of the theory. This dealt with the topics of naturalness, abstraction and the use of white space.
